"The decision by the New York City Department of Transportation and MTA to pilot a Transit/Truck Priority lanes on 14th Street increases many concerning problems for those elements who live on the cubes into the north and south of 14th Street. Our components have serious issues, which we share, about the consequences of the plan on our areas, such as how rerouted traffic can affect local side roads. The Department of Transportation must create a thorough strategy that really mitigates traffic affects on side roads as well as ensuring that trucks have been hauled on 14th Street.
The Department of Transportation has distinguished this as a pilot program, and we firmly feel it has to be a legitimate pilot, informed by statistics and with frequently scheduled, ongoing input by neighborhood residents, businesses, commuters, community boards and elected officials. The Department should clearly specify the metrics by which it will evaluate the application. We expect changes to be made as conditions dictate.
The affected neighborhoods also need to have a detailed and strong traffic enforcement representative existence to make sure both 14th Street and also the regional roads to the south and north have constant authorities to move traffic safely and also to safeguard pedestrians and cyclists.
We'll monitor this situation and we are going to be vigilant in
